  • 1/4 - It's fun to see these "stars" from over 30 years ago. Bob Vila, Rich Trethewey, Norm Abram - all heroes of mine.
    (VHS Tape transfer) This Old House was the reason I bought a VHS player when I could afford on in 1984 - just to tape the shows. As it turned out, I never actually watched the tapes. I know: what a waste.

    Thank you for uploading this, seeing Norm's truck with the plow frame brings back memories of my dad who was a bricklayer in the 80s when I was a kid. It was interesting to hear Norm talk about how busy everyone was, little did they know that only about 5 years later the construction industry would take a huge down turn especially in the northeast, the phone stopped ringing for my dad's masonry business around 1990 and it had a huge effect on me in my teen years, now as an adult I'm a mason by trade and while 2010-2012 were some rough years for business it was nothing compared to what my dad went through and I absolutely take nothing for granted and try to get as much work as possible because it could all end at any time. It's really interesting to see how much the building trades have changed and funny to see Norm in his mid 30s, younger than I am now.

    Don’t worry about the loss of quality, it is the loss of the quality that makes watching these episodes awesome. Takes me back to when I was a kid when reception on the old crt was not coming in the best. Thanks for posting these classics.

    When I was a kid I loved to watch these home shows in the days when there was no HGTV channel..I actually remember this episode and this house renovation from when it was originally aired in 1984!! Thank you soo much for posting this!! A real stroll down memory lane! Bob Villa was soo young looking back then!!

    I had no idea This Old House has been around so long! I've only been watching since I was a little kid in the early 2000s. I'm 17 now.

      I was watching back in the early-mid 90s as a kid and even then it felt like it had been around forever. I definitely consider it a big influence as to why I went into civil engineering haha.

    I was a couple years removed from high school from this episode 1984 brings back memories of this old House I've been a fan since the beginning which dates back to the first episode I believe it was 1979. It seems like this old House episodes from the 1980s it's hard to find any more considering most of it was on VHS begin with. I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode of this old House. It never gets old even go on back and watch some of the previous shows. I remember in the past this old House would go back and revisit previous homeowners for updates and to check in on conditions of houses that they previously built on the show.

    In case anyone doesn't know: if you get the subscription to stream This Old House they have the first 9 seasons with Bob. You get a free 30 day trial. Needless to say I watched all 9 seasons in less than 30 days. Season 2 or 3 is the Woburn house, where Bob does most of the work himself. Watching Bob run a jack hammer to break up concrete steps is worth the price of admission alone. There is no This Old House without Bob Vila.

    I wonder if there are any episodes of This Old House, where Bob Vila (Steve Thomas after 1989) and Norm Abram visit the houses of such classic ZOOM cast members as Dr. Joseph (Joe to all you ZOOM fans!) Shrand, Nina Lillie, Bernadette Yao, Leon Mobley, Maura Mullaney, Tishy Flaherty, Cate Wadsworth, Jennifer Gold and Carolyn Malcolm?

    • @ClassicTVMan1981X
      @ClassicTVMan1981X 7 лет назад

      Both ZOOM and This Old House were produced by WGBH and thus were filmed in Boston and around, hence why I asked.
